Mall's 'Adorable Creatures' Typically French: Long on Creatures, Short on Morals

THE LOWER MALL Theater is now showing a French picture, "Adorable Creatures," with French dialögue and superimposed English titles, and at least for those who fall into the category of honi-soit-qui-mal-ypense (should I insert an English subtitle here?), it's fucky for the film that it has those printed titles.

"Adorable

Creatures" drew,

one or two

generally favorable reviews in Mall wrapped in the protective Manhattan. cloak of a Pennsylvania Board There were only of Censors okay, but since this mildly dissentboard functions without benefit ing criticisms of funds and has Hollywood and none of pictures submitted to it now them took the under protest; I do not know deliberate aim what this means, if anything. This pair is Daniel Gelin and

I just do not find any excuse Cleveland critics but only Antonette Lualdi, and since both for a picture like "Adorable of us watched it the second of them are entirely personable Creatures" on the American time. The Pennsylvania board and do have some talent,  ́I screen. It is intended to be a excised a few scenes but such should like to see them do somekind of satire and it is supposed excisions, while removing of thing more satirical, something to be laden with humor. The fense, have failed to elevate the best I can write about it on moral tone very much. funnier and something cleaner. these two scores is that it is proverbially French.

The picture is still the story of a modern young Don Juan in In its behalf-if this means France who has just come from anything the picture has been the church with his bride and passed by a couple of censor swears to her that she is the boards and comes to the Lower only woman he has ever loved.

There is a narrator's voice on the sound tack-Claude · Dauphin's--and it comes in from time to time to call, humorously, various members of the cast liars, cheats and the like.

At this point in the film, it reminds Daniel of his affair with a married woman Danielle Darrieux

and the flashback takes the spectator back to the days when he was desperately in love with her and cuckolding her husband until she discovered that her husband, so much more interested în sex than she thought he was, is carrying on with his secretary. Typically French, yes?

Since this makes the husband interesting, our Daniel meets a delectable little tramp (Martine Carol) in a restaurant-since she is ridding herself of her lover,

anyway.

They go to a mountain resort for winter sports where they fall in with another couple, an elderly man and a sexy brunette. Since Martine is more interested in a man's wealth than his physique, the pair switch men but this is of short duration.

Counterpane Comedy MEANWHILE, across the hall from Daniel's apartment is a family consisting of Daniel's bride-to-be, her asthmatic father and her French mama. Daniel spends his rest periods with them and the girl falls in love with him. She even appears as one of the contestants when he devises a leg show for his employer, a mannish woman so obviously a Lesbian as to be unmistakably

So.

This show serves to introduce Daniel to the attractive widow of Edwige Feuillere who has so much money that she flits from one charity to another and also from one lover to another. At the moment she has an elfin pianist of whom she is enamored but when she sees Daniel at the leg show she gets young ideas.

This affair is rudely, for no reason I could see, broken by the widow's secretary who has been a convict. This young woman deliberately tells the Lothario the age of his adoring one and the affair busts up.

This is a brief synopsis of "Adorable Creatures" which is so typically French-long on creatures and short on morals, mais oui.
